Spill triggers fire in oil well off Australia coast

An oil well at the centre of a massive spill in the Timor sea off the north-western coast of Australia has caught fire. The company responsible said the fire broke out as it made another attempt to plug a leak deep under water at the West Atlas oil rig. Engineers have been struggling for more than ten weeks to stop the leak. The well has been spilling gas and oil at an estimated 400 barrels a day and environmentalists say it poses a long term threat to the area's wild life.<br/>
