The country exported 5,25,750 tonnes of spices and spice products worth 6840 crore rupees during last fiscal as against 5,02,750 tonnes valued at 5560 crores during 2009-2010, registering an all time high both in quantity and value terms. Addressing a press conference in Kochi on Monday, the Spices Board Chairman Mr V J Kurien said this represented an increase of five per cent in volume and 23 per cent in rupee terms of value. He said the target for the current fiscal has been fixed at six lakh tonnes worth 7500 crore rupees. Mr Kurien said the Board is planning to set up eight spice labs next year in different parts of the country.
