Special train with NE people leaves for Karnataka

The people from North Eastern states, who had left Bangaluru following fake SMS threats, have started returning to Karnataka. A special train carrying over 12 hundred passengers is now its way to Bangaluru from Paltan Bazar station in Guwahati. Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain and Agriculture Minister Nilmani Sen Deka were at the station to see them off. The train will reach Bangaluru on Monday evening. Special security arrangement has been made to ensure safe journey of the passengers. Assam Police and Railway Protection Force personnel are accompanying them.

AIR Guwahati Correspondent Manas Sarma says about 35 thousand people are ready to return as a result of Assam and Karnataka governments’ confidence building measures. Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka R. Ashoka was recently in Guwahati and Imphal to shore up the confidence of the people.

Police in Assam has so far arrested 431 persons for indulging in violence during ethnic clashes and another 102 miscreants for their involvements in anti-social activities during Tuesday’s Assam bandh called by All Assam Minority Students Union.
Assam government has set 6th September as the deadline to verify land documents of the displaced people staying at relief camps in Bodoland Territorial Area and Dhubri districts. Around 2 lakh 40 thousand people are staying at 234 camps at present. Official sources in Guwahati said that on the basis of the verification, the genuine citizen will be rehabilitated.

The overall situation in the violence hit areas has improved. But strict vigil is being maintained as a precautionary measure. Army has already started counter insurgency operation in Kokrajhar district to nab members of insurgent groups involved in perpetrating ethnic clashes.
