A special train was flagged off from Delhi today to create widespread awareness on unique bio-diversity of the country on the world environment day today. Speaking on the occasion, Environment Minister, Jayanthi Natarajan urged the people to play a pro-active role to save the planet and the nature.
The train named as Science Express Bio-diversity special will cover 18000 kilometres and halt at 100 stations in two years. Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said that her government has developed two bio-diversity parks in the national capital apart from taking other measures to keep the national capital clean and green.
Several state governments organized functions to mark the occasion. The Tamil Nadu government has announced to take steps to completely do away with the heaps of plastic wastes in many public places and tourist hubs in the state.
