Government today said that it is taking special measures to empower the hearing impaired community in the country. Inaugurating the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center, ISLRTC in New Delhi, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik said that the government is adopting a holistic approach to improving the condition of hearing disabled persons. Mr. Wasnik added that ISLRTC will play a significant role in fulfilling the requirement of about 10000 sign Language Interpretors in the country. He added that the government is initiating various programmes to train the hearing impaired by reaching far flung areas.
Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal who was also present on the occasion said that government will set up higher education and research institutes for the hearing impaired. He also said that the government will also provide all kinds of audio communication equipment for their enlistment.
