The Centre has decided to give special financial assistance of over 21 thousand crore rupees to the West Bengal Government to tackle its financial problems. Announcing this in Kolkata this afternoon, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that out of the total sanction, 9 thousand 2 hundred and 40 crore rupees is grant in aid and the amount will be spent for developmental purposes. Miss Banerjee said that, the financial assistance will help the Government to tackle the bad economic situation of the state for the time being. Our Kolkata correspondent reports that the decision will end the ongoing controversy between Centre and State on getting financial assistance. Miss Banerjee sought the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s intervention to settle the issue.
