The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr M S Gill says, special emphasis will be given to promote water sports, volleyball and football in Lakshadweep Islands. Addressing a workshop organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra on Personality Development in Kavarathi on Monday, Dr Gill said funds will be sanctioned under the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan, so that overall sports development can be taken up in all the villages of Lakshadweep. Dr Gill assured that steps will be taken to construct a sea-wall in Agatti island, where sea-erosion is taking place at a rapid pace. He said steps will also be taken to construct a hostel at Calicut University for facilitating students from the island to pursue higher studies. He said the government will consider setting up similar hostels in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
