The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested four suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists from Rajasthan. Special Commissioner (Special Cell) S N Srivastava told media in New Delhi that one of the arrested terrorists is a Pakistani terrorist, Zia-Ur-Rehman alias Waqas, who was deputed by Pakistan's ISI.
He said Waqas, arrested in Ajmer yesterday, is wanted in connection with several blasts in the country including the serial blasts at Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai in July, 2011. The Special Commissioner said, Waqas was trying to meet his aides in Ajmer to plan a terrorist attack.
Srivastava said the other three arrested terrorists are from Rajasthan. He said the Rajasthan Anti Terrorist Squad assisted the Delhi Police in nabbing the fugitives. Srivastava said a huge cache of arms and explosives including detonator and electronic circuits were recovered from those arrested. He said further investigations are in progress.
The Special Commissioner told AIR that a Special Court has remanded Waqas to 10-day police custody after he was brought to Delhi. 24-year old Waqas is said to be the close aid of top Indian Mujahiddin Commander Yasin Bhatkal.
Speaking to media persons in Mumbai Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde described the arrest of four terrorists as a “big success”. He said the arrest of Waqas is crucial and it would help in getting more links to nab other terrorists. Shinde said the intelligence teams were tracking Waqas for the last 8-10 days.
