Union Health and Family Minister J P Nadda today said special campaigns will be taken up to eliminate Kalaazar and Leprosy from the country. He was addressing a gathering after launching the National Deworming Day campaign in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana this afternoon. He said Maternity and neo-natal Tetanus has been eradicated from the country.<br/><br/> He said the WHO also handed over the certification in this regard recently. Mr Nadda also said the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is coming down at a fast pace and presently the IMR has come down to 49 per every thousand births from 126 a few years ago. <br/><br/>Appreciating the response from the states to the Rainbow Programme, the Minister said four more vaccines including Rotavirus will be added soon and the total number of vaccines to be administered on the newborns will become 11. Emphasizing on the need to treat deficiencies early, the Minister said a total 6.5 crore children have been screened for deficiencies and problems last year and 13 lakh out of 20 lakh children with problems have been treated.
