In Spain, supporters of the independence referendum in Catalonia have vowed to go ahead with the vote tomorrow despite opposition from the central government Madrid. <br/><br/>Tens of thousands of Catalan separatists have taken part in a final rally in Barcelona ahead of tomorrow's planned referendum on independence from Spain. <br/><br/>The supporters of the independence referendum have also occupied the polling stations set up for the referendum in a bid to ensure the vote goes ahead. Meanwhile, Spanish authorities have repeatedly warned those who help stage a referendum which the courts have ruled unconstitutional that they face repercussions. <br/><br/>Thousands of extra police have been deployed in Catalonia to stop the ballot. Masses of referendum materials have been confiscated by police in recent weeks and officials involved in running the campaign face prosecution. However, Regional President Carles Puigdemont said, Catalonia would be taking its first step as a sovereign nation. During his speech at yesterday's rally he said, the victory is definite and asked the supporters to leave home prepared to change history.<br/><br/>Catalonia, a wealthy region of 7.5 million people in north-eastern Spain has its own language and culture, and a high degree of autonomy, but is not recognised as a separate nation under the Spanish constitution.
