In Spain, a state of emergency was declared today after a wildcat strike by air traffic controllers paralysed air travel for the second day. Deputy Prime Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said following an emergency cabinet meeting that if the controllers do not return to work they will be breaking the law. The walkout by controllers quickly stopped flights in and out of Spain's main airports yesterday, disrupting travel for around 250,000 people on one of Spain's busiest holiday weekends.
