Space station orbit corrected to avoid collision

The International Space Station -ISS – on Tuesday corrected the orbit to avoid collision with space garbage. The Mission Control Centre outside Moscow said the correction was done at Moscow local time 14: 25 p.m. on uesday. According to local media reports, the adjustment took only 180 seconds. The ISS was maneuvered to an orbit 700 meters higher by the engines of the Russian Progress M-07M with its speedincreased by 0.4 meters per second. According to the Mission Control Centre's spokesman Valery Lyndin, the control centre decided to correct the orbit to ensure the safety of the station and the crew though the possibility of a collision was 0.001 percent. The orbit of the ISS is corrected periodically to compensate for Earth's gravity and to ensure successful spacecraft dockings.
