In UP ,Samajwadi party has won an absolute majority by winning 224 seats in the 403 member assembly. The ruling party BSP was left far behind with 80 seats. BJP has won 47 seats.
Congress has won 28 seats. Congress ally RLD has won 9 seats NCP one while others have won 14 seats .
AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that first time Samajwadi Party is going to capture power in the state with on his own strength. Earlier it had formed the government with the support of other parties.
Party has called its parliamentary board meeting today to elect the leader of legislative party. New government is likely come to power after Holi festival as Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that he will be at his native place at Etawah to celebrate the festival.
Several prominent leaders from most of the parties have lost the elections. Among the prominent winners, Leader of opposition in the state Assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav won Jaswantnagar seat, Congress state unit President Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Lucknow cantt seat, leader of Congress legislative party Pramod Tiwari, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra Lucknow East seat and Uma Bharti Charkhari seat.
Mohammad Azam Khan of Samajwadi Party won the Rampur seat and RLD MP Jayant Chaudhary has won Matt seat in Mathura district.
Among the prominent losers are leader of BJP legislative Party Om Prakash Singh from Chunar, Amita Singh, wife of Congress MP Sanjay Singh from Amethi, Louis Khurshid, wife of Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid from Farrukhabad, mafia turn politician D.P.Yadav from Sahaswan in Badaun, former MP and controversial Atique Ahemad from Allahabad west, BSP Minister Nakul Dubey from Bakshi Ka Talab.
BJP state unit President Surya Pratap Shahi has been defeated in Patherdeva seat.
Speaker of State Assembly Sukhdev Rajbhar, leader of RLD legislative party Kaukab Hamid from Baghpat, RLD State unit President Baba Hardev from Etmadpur in Agra , Former Speaker of state Assembly, Kesri Nath Tripathi lost the Allahabad South seat.
