<br/>Former Union Minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader a 4 time Lok Sabha member Mr. Janeshwar Misra died today at Allahabad. He was 77. He was ill from a long time and took his last breaths when he was on the way to Lucknow for treatment. He was admitted in a local hospital at Allahabad.<br/><br/> Mr. Misra was from Ballia district of eastern Uttar Pradesh but his political field was Allahabad. Mr. Misra became Member of Parliament, first time in 1969 defeating senior Congress leader Keshav Deo Malviya in a by election from Phulpur constituency. He had served central government as Union Minister of State, Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilizers Union Minister of State, Energy Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Shipping and Transport, Communication and Railway Minister.<br/><br/> Mr. Misra took active interest in the socialist movement under the leadership of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. Being an eloquent speaker and the youngest member of Lok Sabha, became popular as the 'Junior Lohia.<br/><br/> He was Minister in the Governments headed by Shri Morarji Desai, Shri Charan Singh, Shri V.P.Singh, Shri Chandrashekhar, Shri Deve Gowda and Shri I.K.Gujral<br/><br/> Former union Minister SP Malviya has expressed has sorrow and grief over death of Mr. Misra. He has said that Mr. Misra was a true socialist and was against the corporate socialism. Mr. Malviya has said that he has lost his very close friend and colleague.
