Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed police to take stern action against militant group involved in the killing of two cops including Hamren SP Nityananda Goswami.
Gogoi today condemned the incident and assured that all steps are being taken against all militant groups including Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers,KPLT . State Home Commissioner G D Tripathi said that the army has been deployed at Hamren and adjoining areas in counter insurgency operation.
He said that additional para-military forces have been deployed in the area. Senior police officials including the DGP have reached Hamren to take stock of the situation.
They have paid last tributes to the deceased cops at Hamren. Hamren SDO said that the body of Mr. Goswami is being taken to Guwahati. The officer also said that little known outfit United People’s Liberation Army has claimed responsibility behind the attack. Police have detained 4 persons for interrogation.
Earlier, police said that Hamren SP along with another cop has been killed in an encounter with militant outfit Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers,KPLT at Rumphung area yesterday . Mr. Goswami, a former Indian Air force officer was recruited to the Assam Police Service in a special drive in 1993.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju will visit Assam tomorrow in the wake of killing of two cops in the state by militants. Home Ministry spokesperson confirmed this to AIR in New Delhi this evening.
