Sowing of Kharifs crops like rice and sugarcane is in progress in various parts of the country. According to the Agriculture Ministry, various States have reported progress in sowing of such crops. So far, around 19 lakh hectare area have been covered under the cultivation of rice.

While sugarcane has been planted in over 51 lakh hectare area, cotton in 21 lakh hectare area and coarse cereals have been cultivated in over 5.5 lakh hectare area.
