The sowing area of rice in Kharif crop has been picked up till date to over 329 lakh hectare. It was around 307 lakh hectare during the last week. According to data released by the Agriculture Ministry, the sowing area of the Kharif crop is still nearly 59 lakh hectare below from the last sowing of 979 lakh hectare. Higher area of rice sowing has been reported in the states of Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Maharasthra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. But the states of Odisha, Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttrakhand and West Bengal have reported less sowing of rice.
The total coverage under pulses so far is 88 lakh hectare against over 99 lakh hectare, which is 11 lakh hectare lower than the corresponding week last year. Higher sowing area is reported in all Sugarcane growing states except Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The total coverage of Sugarcane is around 53 lakh hectare against over 46 lakh hectare. In Cotton, the total coverage is over 111 lakh hectare against nearly 106 lakh hectare. Higher area sowing is reported in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Odisha.
