The South-west monsoon is likely to hit coastal Karnataka today while it hit the Kerala coast on Monday evening.

Weathermen say, due to a storm brewing in the Arabian Sea, the progression of the monsoon is expected to be along the Western coast and interior parts of the Peninsula would get rains later. A depression in the Arabian Sea can develop into a cyclone and hit parts of coastal Gujarat.

The monsoon is said to boost the farm production thus reducing inflation. A remarkable increase can be found in the sowing of rice, sugarcane, soybean and corn. Kerala will also see an increase in tourism due to the monsoon.
