South Korea says, it has acquired land to deploy an advanced US missile defence system. South Korean Defence Ministry spokesperson Moon Sang-gyun told a news conference that the ministry signed a land swap deal with the Lotte Group. Under the deal, the ministry has acquired a golf course in Seongju in the country's south in exchange for state-owned land east of Seoul. <br/><br/>South Korea and the United States have agreed to install the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, system within this year to boost defense capabilities amid North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. China opposes the THAAD deployment in South Korea, saying its advance radar could be used to monitor China's military.
