South Asian Games end with colourful closing ceremony

The 12th South Asian Games have been declared closed. Union Minister for Sports and youth Affairs, Sarbananda Sonowal declared the games closed at a glittering closing ceremony which is being held at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. He also handed over the games flag to his counterpart of Nepal, the country which will host the next edition of the event in 2018.The closing ceremony began with a band performance by the Sashastra Seema Bal. Later players of the all the participating nations – India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives marched before crowd of thousand. More than 3 thousand volunteers of the games also marched before the audience. Another highlight of the show was the cultural performance by next host Nepal. The ceremony is still under way. India has finished the games at the top of the medal standing with a whooping 308 medals – 188 gold, 90 silver and 30 bronze. Sri Lanka is second while Pakistan is third.
