South Africa’s trade unions asks for replicating MGNREGA

The head of South Africa's powerful federation of trade unions has asked the government to consider replicating the model of India's rural employment guarantee scheme MGNREGA to address huge unemployment problems in the country.The Indian scheme which became law in 2005, MNREGA has reduced hunger, raised self esteem, and advanced women, strengthened civil society despite problems with fraud which we in South Africa are also familiar with.He believes the model used in India could also work in South Africa.
