South Africa were bowled out for 248 runs on the first day of the first Cricket Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong yesterday. After winning the toss, the Proteas were well placed at one stage with 136 for one. But fine spells by the host bowlers dented their progress. While left-arm quick Mustafizur Rahman took 4 for 37 on debut, leg spinner Jubair Hossain claimed three wickets for 53 runs. Temba Bavuma top-scored for South Africa with 54, the only half-century. Faf du Plessis made 48, and opener Dean Elgar 47. Bangladesh were 7 for no loss at stumps. The scores so far: South Africa – 248.Bangladesh – 7 for no loss.
