The Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi today reiterated the party’s resolve to continue its fight against communalism and fanaticism of all types. Addressing the AICC session in New Delhi today, Mrs Sonia Gandhi said that the party is committed to upholding the secular fabric of the country. She also made it clear that that the Judgment of the Allahbad High Court on Ram Janam Bhumi Babri Masjid title suit in no way condones the demolition of the disputed structure . She said it was a shameful and criminal act and those responsible for it should be brought to book. She said, it is a tribute to the people that peace and harmony prevailed after the judgment. The Congress President said that inflation remains a serious challenge. She said while prices have come down a little there is need bring them down further . While calling for making PDS more effective and efficient , Mrs Gandhi said responsibility also lies on the states .She said even while efforts toward growth have to be maintained , there is need to ensure that the benefits reach the weakest sections of society .The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh also reiterated the government ‘s commitment to the work for the Aam Aadmi . He said that the government while maintaining the high growth rate, has taken a number of steps to see that weaker sections , minorities , women and the poor are benefitted from various programmes . He appealed to the congress workers to bring the party closer to the Aam Aadmi. The Finance Minister Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjees touched upon the issues that are being included in the statement to be adopted by the session. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that only congress can unite the 'two Hindustans' – the rich and the poor of the nation.Addressing the AICC session he referred to his intensive travels across the country and interactions with a cross-section of people and said he had understood two things clearly – first it is only the poor people who can take the country forward. And if the poor people have move forward – the Prime Minister's strategy for economic growth is a necessity. There is need to connect and unite the two.He said people used to say that Congress is finished in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. He said the party is not finished and it can be easily rekindled by learning the problems of the poor and working for them.AICC Plenary Session to be held in Delhi from December 18 to 20. Congress party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi told this at the one-day AICC meeting in New Delhi today.The Congress plenary this year will coincide with the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Indian National Congress. The three-day plenary will have detailed deliberations on the current political situation.
