The UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone of Rajiv Gandhi Sports stadium in Izawl yesterday. Addressing a mammoth gathering Mrs. Gandhi expressed gratitude for naming the sports stadium after her late husband Rajiv Gandhi, who was the architect of Mizoram peace accord. She said, the new sports stadium will go along way in nurturing the sports talent in the state. AIR Izawl correspondent reports that the sports stadium is to be constructed at a cost of 21 crore 92 lakh rupees and the first phase will be completed within 18 months. The function was also addressed by the Chief Minister Mr. Lalthanhawla.
