Sonia: Govt committed to bring strong & effective Lokpal

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said that government is committed to bring a strong and effective Lokpal Bill to deal with corruption. Referring to Team Anna, Mrs. Gandhi said that unnecessary hue and cry will not serve the purpose. She said that it was National Advisory Council which initiated the debate on Lokpal to curb corruption. UPA Chairperson also said that corruption can be eradicated only by taking ruthless action.

Referring to Jan Chetna Yatra, Ms. Gandhi said that corruption cannot be routed by speeches and mere pointing fingers. She said that Congress led government took effective action even before investigation was completed.

Mrs. Gandhi said that it was UPA government which not only passed but also successfully implemented Right to Information act to ensure transparency in the system. She said that government needs to put in more efforts to tackle inflation effectively.

Mrs. Gandhi however said that global economic crisis is responsible for increase in the prices in domestic markets. Congress President's speech was read in her absence at Uttrakhand today as she was indisposed.
