The United Progressive Alliance UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will be presiding over a meeting of District Monitoring Committee today at Rae Bareilly to review implementation of welfare programmes and schemes in the district.All MPs and MLAs of the district are members of the committee while the district magistrate is ex officio secretary of the Committee. Being MP from the district Mrs Gandhi is chairman of the committee.On his first day of her two days tour to Raebareilly the Congress leader laid the foundation stone of a project for widening and strengthening of about 176 Km long Lucknow- Raebarely- Allahabad highway. Over 924 crore rupees will be spent on the project implemented by the National Highway Authority under Ministry of Surface Transport.Our correspondent reports from Raebareilly that it was her first visit to the district after state assembly elections. She has also announced for setting up a girls degree college in the district in the name of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
