Sonia Gandhi files nomination from Rae Bareli; AAP pits Ex-Judge Fakhruddin against her

Congress President Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination papers from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh today. She was accompanied by party's Vice President and her son, Rahul Gandhi while presenting her papers before the Returning Officer. Old family loyalist Satish Sharma along with her lawyer was also present at the time of filing of nominations.

AIR correspondent reports that she filed three sets of nomination papers. After filing of her papers Sonia told media persons that she has special bonding with Rae Bareli people.

67-year old Sonia Gandhi is seeking re-election from Rae Bareli for the fourth time. She had shifted to this constituency from Amethi in 2004 elections, leaving it to her son Rahul Gandhi.

BJP has fielded Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Aggarwal in Rae Bareli while SP has decided not to field anyone against her and Rahul.

Aam Aadmi Party, AAP, has fielded Ex-MP and former Chhattisgarh High Court Judge Fakhruddin against Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. Adarsh Shastri, who is grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, will be AAP candidate for Allahabad seat.

Their names figure in the 14th list of 19 candidates released by AAP today. The list includes 10 candidates for Uttar Pradesh , three for Chhattisgarh , two each for Gujarat and Punjab and one each for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. So far the party has announced candidates for 426 Lok Sabha seats.
