The Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has said that the Indian Government would impress upon the Srilankan Government to protect the Tamils living in Sri Lanka. Addressing the election rally in Chennai today, Mrs Gandhi listed out the various measures taken by the Centre towards the cause of the Tamils. Complimenting the State Government on its achievements by working in accordance with the Centre, She said that all the issues which were put forth by the DMK Chief would be looked into.Earlier while addressing the meeting, the DMK Chief Mr. M Karunanidhi said that steps should be taken to ensure safety of tamils living in the island nation, Sri Lanka. The interlinking of rivers in South India, education should be included in the State list , revival of Sethu Samudram Project are some of the appeals made by the DMK Chief. Leaders of the democratic progressive alliance shared the dias with Mrs Sonia Gandhi during the meet.
