UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has said Congress party is in favour of enacting a National law on minimum wages for workers and this should be made statutory. Addressing a rally organised by INTUC in Kollam today, she said a separate fund for social security measures for workers in the unorganised sector should be created.Stressing that human capital is the countrys best resource,she said skilled human resource should be utilised to its maximum potential.Sonia Gandhi asked Kerala Government to take steps to end the exploitation faced by workers from other states at the hands of labour contractors.She said though the Left parties claim they protect the interests of workers,it is actually the Congress party,which has done something concrete for the working class.UPA Chairperson said the Congress is committed to protecting the rights of the countrys labour force and ensure life of dignity for workers.INTUC National President G Sanjeeva Reddy,State President R Chandrasekharan,Chief Minister Oommen Chandy,Home MInister Ramesh Chennithala and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran were among the leaders,who addressed the rally.
