Sonia accuses govt of muzzling voice of opposition, civil society & students

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accused the government of muzzling voice of opposition, civil society and students. In an apparent remarks on recent JNU row, Ms. Gandhi said Universities are places where young people must have the fullest freedom to express themselves. Addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi this evening, she charged the government with unleashing its divisive agenda by generating debate on patriotism and nationalism to cover up its failures on many fronts.

Saying that economy is not picking up despite government's tall claims, Ms. Gandhi added farmers and rural labour are in a deep crisis and prices of essential commodities are rising. The CWC also passed a resolution accusing RSS of targeting educational institutions to impose its ideology. It reached out to like-minded parties to corner the ruling party in Budget session.
