Sonam Malik downed Sakshi Malik in trials to make it to Indian team for Olympic Qualifiers

Young Sonam Malik downed Sakshi Malik in trials at Lucknow today to make it to the Indian team for next month's Olympic Qualifiers. The 18-year-old Sonam tore apart the challenge of established senior in the 62kg competition. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is conducting trials again in 62kg and 76 kg for women and 60kg for Greco Roman style for wrestlers whose performance was not satisfactory earlier. Kiran won the re-trial in 76kg.

Nine wrestlers appeared in the 62kg trials and a few from upper weight categories. The Asian Olympic Qualifiers will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 27th of next month. The finalists will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
