The chilling cold wave condition prevails in Uttar Pradesh despite sunshine for past two days. The road, rail and air traffic continues to be badly hampered due to dense fog during evening and morning hours. The capital Lucknow recorded lowest minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees on Wednesday. The temperature hovered between 5 to 10 degrees this morning in various districts. At least 50 people have succumbed to intense cold wave during past four days.People of Punjab and Haryana got some respite from intense cold conditions as the minimum temperature increased by three degrees Celsius. But most parts of the region remained engulfed under a thick blanket of fog today.There was a marginal increase in minimum temperature in the region with the mercury hovering between one to three degrees Celsius below normal. In the plains of two neighbouring states, Ludhiana was coldest with a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius, which was three notches below normal.While Amritsar braved a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature at Patiala was 3.9 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.Among other places, Karnal in Haryana settled at a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, followed by 4.9 degrees Celsius at Rohtak and 5.2 degrees Celsius at Chandigarh.In view of reduced visibility, several trains were running late.The MeT forecast dry weather during the next two days with foggy conditions in the region. The national capital witnessed a slight increase in temperature although a blanket of fog engulfed the city in the morning. The minimum temperature rose from Wednesday's 3.9 degrees to settle at 5.3 degrees Celsius, still two notches below normal. According to PRO of Northern Railways, 30 trains are running late due to fog. However flight operations at IGI Airport were not disrupted. The Met department predicts the night temperatures to increase in the coming days while the day temperatures are likely to fall down. Weathermen also expect light rainfall in a couple of days. Today will be a sunny day with mercury likely to oscillate between 19 and eight degree Celsius.Jharkhand is once again under the grip of severe cold wave. Three days back when on Sunday, the weather across had improved, people had started come out to enjoy the pleasant weather but since Wednesday, the condition of the state has worsened once again, with minimum temperature dropping to nearly 2.6 degree Celsius to 4 degree Celsius across most parts of the state. The centrally located district Hazaribagh had minimum of 2.6 degree Celsius, western region like Garwa had minimum of 3 degree Celsius and northern area like Kodarma had minimum of 3.5 degree Celsius.
