India's Somdev Devvarman has sailed into the singles quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger tennis event in Charlottesville, United States. However, his compatriot Yuki Bhambri crashed out of the event. Somdev asserted his supremacy over Australia's Greg Jones with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the second round. Somedev had beaten the same player in the Commonwealth Games final to win gold medal. The second seed Indian will now fight it out with another Australian Chris Guccione for a spot in the semifinals. However, it was all over for qualifier Yuki, who put up a brave fight against sixth seed Marinko Matosevic before losing 6-7, 2-6 in his second round. Somdev advanced to the doubles quarter-finals along with partner Treat Conrad Huey with a 6-3 7-5 win over local wild cards Alex Bogomolov Jr. and Alex Kuznetsov in the opening round of the 50,000 U.S. Dollar hard court event.
