Somdev Devvarman, India's lone singles entry at the Australian Open, crashed out of the tournament after losing his opening round match against 27th seed Feliciano Lopez of Spain in Melbourne today. Somdev showed his fighting spirit throughout the contest before going down 4-6, 4-6, 6-7. In other singles matches , top seeded Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova moved to the second round after beating their respective men's and women's singles rivals.
