Pirates off the coast of Somalia have hijacked a yacht carrying four Americans. Officials in the area who monitor pirate activity said the S/V Quest was seized on Friday afternoon in the Indian Ocean off the Somali coast. A website that chronicles the voyage of S/V Quest said the vessel is owned by a retired American couple who have been sailing around the world since December 2004 and were on a trip. The couple wrote on their website that they had taken on two new crew members last year. Earlier on Friday, European Union maritime officials said Somali pirates captured a Yemeni fishing vessel and its eight crew members in the Gulf of Aden. The EU anti-piracy task force said it had no details about the vessel Alfardous and its crew. International naval patrols off the coast of Somalia have had little success in stopping pirates from attacking ships in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. Somali pirates have made hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years hijacking and holding ships for ransom.
