Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today said, country's soldiers continue to remain vigilant on the Line of Control defending the nation. In his address to the Armed Forces personnel over All India Radio on the eve of Independence Day, Mr Jaitley said, despite repeated requests, Pakistan has continued to use Indian territory occupied by it to not only train terrorists but also use it as a launch pad for pushing these militants to India. <br/><br/>He said, the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes last year at several of these launch pads to pre-empt infiltration by terrorists and ensure that these terrorists did not succeed in their nefarious designs. <br/><br/>Mr Jaitley said, soldiers continue to make the supreme sacrifice while defending the country and nation is indebted to their martyrdom.<br/><br/>Saying that government is committed for the welfare of the jawans, the Defence Minister pointed out Centre has taken decision on recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission on Allowances, which will benefit 14 lakh Defence Forces personnel. <br/><br/>He also saidM the benefits of One Rank One Pension scheme started reaching the accounts of Ex-Servicemen and families since last year. <br/><br/>A sum of 4,156 crore rupees have been paid towards first installment of OROP arrears and 2,385 crores rupees as second installment till 10th July this year. <br/><br/>The Minister also said, Government is also considering the report of the one-man judicial committee headed by Justice L Narasimha Reddy on OROP to look into the anomalies arising out of implementation of OROP and will take decision soon. <br/><br/>Mr Jaitley said the government has enhanced penury grant to non-pensioner Ex-Servicemen and Widows to 4,000 rupees per month from the existing rate of 1,000 rupees per month.<br/><br/>He said, a campaign has been launched to have a 'Wall of Valour' in 1,000 educational institutions across the country in the month of May where portraits of Param Vir Chakra decorated soldiers will be displayed in educational campuses to instil sense of nationalism among the students. He also said, a Sainik Rest House has been built at Naraina in New Delhi at a cost of around eight crore rupees.
