The commanding officer of the Fort Hood US military base where 13 people were shot dead and more 30 injured has said the soldier accused of the shooting, Maj. Nidal Hassan, is to be tried by a military court. He could now face death penalty if convicted. Maj. US officials allege Nidal Hassan was in an e-mail contact with an al-Queda member based in Yemen. The shooting raised concerns in the US of so-called home-grown militant attacks.
