Soil management is need of hour to increase agricultural productivity: PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today stressed on the need for harnessing the full potential of the country to achieve the goal of evergreen revolution. Releasing two books on green revolution at a function in New Delhi, Mr Modi said, the success in agriculture needs to be extended to eastern India and scientific and technological interventions can make this a reality. In view of the growing population and limited cultivated land, Mr Modi said soil management is the need of hour to increase the agricultural productivity. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister said, Government is focusing on water conservation but the challenges still remain. He said, more needs to be done to increase awareness on the issue. He said, the government is implementing one drop more crop scheme in a mission mode. He said, a combination of modern scientific methods and traditional agricultural knowledge would bring about the best possible results in the sector. He said, each district in India should have its own Agri-Identity to boost the marketing process and help develop agri-clusters on the lines of industrial clusters.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister also spoke on the target of doubling farm incomes by 2022 saying this requires a targeted approach in several key areas. He said, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is finding much higher acceptance among farmers, than previous agricultural insurance schemes. He said this will help increase the risk-taking ability of farmers, and facilitate the process of taking innovation from Lab to Land.<br/> <br/><br/>Eminent Agriculture scientist Dr M S Swaminathan emphasized the importance of synergy between technology and public policy. He said, food grain production has multiplied manifold after the advent of green revolution and country has become self- reliant in foodgrain production.
