Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the last two years in office, has initiated several welfare schemes for all sections of the society including the farmers.<br/><br/>One of the major schemes is soil health card for farmers.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports on how this scheme is benefiting the farmers in Chhattisgarh:<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched soil health card scheme on 19th February last year, seeking to spur agricultural growth.<br/><br/>The scheme has a target to provide soil health cards to more than 14 crore farmers by the year 2018. <br/><br/>The card will carry crop-wise recommendations of nutrients or fertilizers required for farms, making it possible for farmers to improve productivity by wisely using inputs and reduce costs.<br/><br/>A target for distribution of 37 lakh soil health cards has been fixed for Chhattisgarh. So far, more than eight lakh farmers have been provided these cards.<br/><br/>Soil testing laboratories have been set up in seven district headquarters. Efforts are on to establish soil testing facilities in eight more districts as well as in 11 Mandi premises.<br/><br/>Farmers in Chhattisgarh are of the opinion that the soil health card has been proving beneficial for soil health, besides improving productivity and reducing crop disease.
