The CBI has filed a chargesheet against Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah and 14 others in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. The charge sheet was filed in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ahmedabad on Friday. The chargesheet was filed after Amit Shah failed to appear before the investigating agency on two consecutive summons. The name of about dozen other police officers including four IPS of Gujarat and Rajasthan have been included in the chargesheet. D G Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh M N and Abhay Chudasama are already in jail. The agency took up investigation on the directions of the Supreme Court and registered a fresh FIR in last February.The case relates to the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and killing of his wife Kausarbi. The court had directed the CBI to submit its report within six months time. The charge sheet against the 15 accused was filed under various provisions of the IPC for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, kidnapping and abducting to murder, extortion, murder and destroying evidence of offence. Three accused in the case- including Amit Shah and his close associates-Chairman and one Director of Ahmedabad District Co-operative Bank are yet to be arrested. Meanwhile, the BJP has accused the Government of misusing the CBI to harass the Opposition. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, senior party leader Sushma Swaraj alleged that the summons by the CBI to question the Gujarat Minister State for Home Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Encounter case is the latest in the series of cases of misuse of the CBI. Party leader Arun Jaitely, who also addressed the media, alleged that the Government has misused the CBI to time the summons in a manner that will be politically convenient to the ruling UPA.
