Due to the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, people across the country turned to Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram to find help.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">This is for the first time that the social media became a driver in mitigating the crisis which loomed large over the country to due the pandemic. Community came together on various social media platforms to help the unknown. Several organisations , NGOs, political leaders, journalists and self help groups used social media as a powerful tool to reach out to people.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">Talking to All India Radio News, Cyber Expert Jiten Jain said the social media became helpline for people to get help from the society. He cited the example of Noida and Delhi police who started the Plasma Helpline to help people.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">Due to the sudden increase in usage of internet and social media&nbsp;he said that the digital literacy in the country needs to be strengthened so that everybody is aware of cyber safety and internet can be used to its maximum potential. Cyber Expert, Jain added that the reach of social media in rural areas is limited and the time has come to further increase it so that its the benefit reaches maximum people.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">&nbsp;</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">The government also used social media to spread awareness about the COVID appropriate behaviour. Social media also acted as a very strong communication platform and helped in dispelling misinformation related to COVID-19. Telemedicine, which was earlier unheard of has also gained momentum in the time of crisis.</span><br />” &nbsp;<br />
