Soccer mania has hit a high in Bangladesh and in the process it is likely to hit production in factories. Faced with a shortfall in power production, the Managing Director of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Saleh Ahmed told All India Radio that he has sent letters to factory owners requesting them to stop production activities for two hours in the evening during the peak hours. The power distribution companies hope that this will help in ensuring uninterrupted supply of power to households facilitate viewing of world cup football matches. The move comes in the wake of violent protests by football fans after a Power Blackout in Dhaka city during the live telecast of the world cop match between Argentina and Nigeria. The irritated fans took to the streets vandalising power distribution centres and breaking more than twenty vehicles. More than thirty people were injured in the clashes as hundreds of policemen tried to bring the mob under control.
