Snowfall paralyses life in North

Severe snowfall battered normal life in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The Kashmir Valley remained cut off from the rest of the country as snowfall blocked the vital Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and delayed all scheduled flights to the Valley. However, in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, bright sun shine improved weather today, providing relief to the people. AIR Leh correspondent reports that supply of essential services have resumed and traffic is back on the roads.

In Himachal Pradesh, the key tourist resort of Manali and other higher mountains in Kullu are experiencing the heaviest snowfall of the season while mid and high hills of Himachal Pradesh were hit by intermittent moderate snowfall.

Several roads, including the Gangotree- Yamunotree and Kedar Nath National highways, are closed in Uttarakhand following heavy snowfall and rain today. The Disaster Mitigation and Management centre said, the Dehradun-Chakrata-Kalsi- Tunee National highway are also blocked due to snowfall. The Met Department has forecast Light snowfall at higher reaches and isolated rain in the remaining areas in the next twenty four hours.
