Snow, rain and cold cripple life in many places

The day after the moderate snow-fall and rainfall the weather in entire Jammu region is clear today. However the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has not been fully resumed up till now. The work of road clearing is going on in full swing. This arterial road is expected to be completely open for traffic by this evening.Leh district has been experiencing rainfall since Thursday night. AIR correspondent report that it has brought cheers to the people but at the same time it has also affected the connectivity of the region due to delay of flights. The entire tribal belt and higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing intermittent snowfall. , Shimla experienced first snowfall of the season on Thursday night. The state capital Shimla witnessed heavy rain accompanied by sleet, bringing down the day temperatureto 5.1 degrees Celsius.Tourist resorts of Manali, Kufri and Narkanda witnessed the first snowfall of the season.Indian Airlines and Kingfisher and flights from Shimla and Kullu to Delhi were cancelled due to thick fog. Upper Shimla region was cut-off as Hindustan-Tibet National Highway was blocked at Kufri and Narkanda due to heavy snow. Rampur-bound buses were being routed via Basantpur and Kingal.The famous tourist resort of Manali recorded 20 cm of snow till Thursday evening, while Rohtang Pass was covered under 120 cm to 140 cm of fresh snow.However, the minimum temperature in lower hills rose sharply by five to seven degrees to stand at 7.5 degrees in Palampur, 6.0 in Solan and Nahan, 7.0 in Sundernagar and 6.5 deg C at Bhuntar. People in the national capital experienced a warmer morning on Thursday with the minimum temperature rising five degrees Celsius above normal. But light rain and a breeze brought back some chill to the prevailing overcast conditions. Some flight services were affected at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.In Uttar Pradesh, two persons died in cold-related incidents, taking the toll to 15 this season, even as there was a marked rise in the minimum temperature at many places. While a 35-year-old man died at railway platform in Barabanki district, one cold-related death was reported fromSiddharth Nagar district. Official sources said, Etawah, which recorded a minimum temperature of 6 deg C, was the coldest place in the state. Cold wave conditions continued to sweep Uttarakhand as higher reaches of the state are experiencing snowfall. Several parts of the state have been experiencing rainfall for the last two days. People across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh got some respite from biting cold as minimum temperatures rose by a few notches amid rain and overcast conditions.In Punjab, Amritsar saw the minimum jump to 10.2 deg C, six degrees above normal. The minimum at Ludhiana also increased to 8.5 deg C, three notches above normal.Chandigarh, which was lashed by rain, recorded a minimum of 10.4 deg C, up by four degrees.In Haryana, Hisar recorded a minimum of 11.1 deg C, six above normal. The low at Karnal settled at 12 deg C, five degrees above normal.Mount Abu was the coldest place in Rajasthan with a minimum of 2 deg C.
