Finance Ministry today said smuggling of fake currency has totally stopped post- demonetisation. The Ministry informed the Parliamentary Committee over its queries over demonetisation.<br/><br/>The Public Accounts Committee, headed by Congress leader K V Thomas, today called key secretaries from the Finance Ministry, including Revenue and Economic Affairs Secretaries to discuss the implications of monetary policy and also demonetisation. <br/><br/>According to sources, the Ministry has detected undisclosed income of 4,172 crore rupees in search and seizure operations between 9th of November to 28th of December last year.<br/><br/>It said, the tax department has seized 515 crore rupees in cash, including 114 crore of new currency notes till 10th of last month.It said, the purpose of demonetisation, was to put an end to subversive activities such as espionage, smuggling of arms and other contrabands into India, besides eliminating black money. <br/><br/>Sources further said, during the meeting, Mr Thomas asked the ministry officials about the amount of old currency notes that have come back into the banking system post demonetisation. The officials are believed to have informed the PAC that RBI is in the process of counting the notes and will come out with a figure in some time.
