SMS based train tickets booking services launched

Passengers, who do not have internet facility, can now book their train tickets through their mobile phones by sending SMS. Launching the SMS based service in New Delhi today, Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said that the new service is benificial to the migrant workers and those who are residing in remote areas and do not have internet facilities.

To avail the facility, passenger will have to register first the mobile number with IRCTC as well as one’s bank account number for authorization of payment.

The Passenger will have to send the journey details to 139. The sender will receive a transaction ID and then will have to make payment through sending another SMS.

Cancellation of tickets can also be done through the system. The move aims at providing hassle free booking facility to the common man.
