Smriti Irani stresses on unigender perception of silk wear

Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani has said there is need to change the perception about silk to expand its use. She said, people consider silk only for women, while it is unigender.<br/><br/>The Minister yesterday launched the Automatic Silk Reeling Machine and inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for training at the Central Silk Board headquarters in Bengaluru. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, she said, the textile ministry will discuss with Central Silk Board scientists about the future innovation and research in the Silk industry and also find out ways to utilise its huge potential.<br/><br/>She said mobile app E-Dhaga will address the concern of individual weavers such as availability of raw material, delay in supply. <br/><br/>The app inaugurated by the Minister yesterday, will soon also be available in Tamil, Assamese, Bengali and Urdu languages by 15th January next year. <br/><br/>She hoped that the Central Silk Board conducts outreach programmes for cocoon producers and give them financial support on behalf of the central government in possible conjunction with the state. <br/><br/>Ms. Smrit Irani also said that special outreach programmes should be conducted in tribal areas to benefit the women.
