Smooth polling underway in Bihar for 7 LS seats with over 23% turnout

Over 23 percent voting has been reported till 11 AM in seven Lok Sabha parliamentary constituencies in Bihar.

According to state election commission office, maximum 27 percent voting was reported in Araria, while minimum 21 percent voting at Banka and Kishanganj parliamentary constituencies. Bhagalpur reported 22 percent followed by Katihar 23, Purnia 24 and Supaul 24 Percent.

Polling began on a peaceful note at 7 AM apart from a few cases of delay of voting in few places due to technical problem in EVM and boycott of voting on local issues.

On the other hand 24 percent voting has been reported in Baisi and 21 percent at Kochadhaman assembly seats, where bye-election is underway. AIR correspondent reports that foolproof security arrangements have been made for polling in Diara and some naxal affected areas.

Voting will continue up to 6 PM, but in two naxal affected assembly segment of Banka seat voting will end 4 PM. Today polling is taking place in Araria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia and Supaul parliamentary constituencies.

The political fate of Union minister and NCP leader Tarique Anwar, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain , RJD leader Taslimuddin, Congress leader Ranjeet Ranjan, JD(U) leader Abu Kaiser among others will be decided in this phase.

Around 1.08 crore electorate, including 51 Lakh females, would exercise their franchise at 9840 polling booths to decide the fate of 108 candidates, including seven women.
