Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has said that the smooth, free and fair conduct of Parliament and Assembly elections over the years bear a testimony to the role of Election Commission of India. He was responding to a query on the issue of &quot; Can people of Karnataka Trust in Election Commission for free and fair elections" at Press Conference in Bengaluru yesterday. Mr. Rajiv Kumar highlighted the fact that the Election Commission of India has completed 400 Assembly elections,&nbsp;18&nbsp;parliamentary elections and 16 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections till date. And election after election, the results have been accepted and the transition of power each time has been smoothly done by ballot .The Chief Election Commissioner said this is in stark comparison to what has been recently happening even in many developed countries.<br />'' <br />'' The CEC said, in the last 70 years India has stabilised its social – cultural-political-geographical , economic, linguistic issues peacefully and through dialogue mainly because of established democracy which is possible only because people trust election results . Still ECI gives 'Agnipariskha 'every time after each election, he added.
