Smooth and peaceful polling underway in West Bengal

In West Bengal, peaceful polling is now on for the 4 Parliamentary constituencies of Darjeeling, Jalpaigudi, Coochbehar and Alipurdur.

Abour 25 percent voting was recorded in the first three hours of polling but in Darjeelsing Lok Sabha seat more than 30 percent votes were cast.

State Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told AIR that no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far.

Polling was delayed in some polling booths due to technical snags in the Electronic Voting machines. He said polling is being monitored in sensitive booths through webcasting.

Our correspondent says that the weather is fine and people are coming out in large numbers to cast their votes in the early hours of polling.
